The United States continues to hold significant sway over India's semiconductor industry, with 69% of multinational corporations based there shaping the sector through ongoing investments, collaborations, and growth in research and design

Bengaluru stands out as the main center for semiconductor design GCCs, housing 57% of these units and 61% of the industry's workforce, solidifying its status as India's Silicon Valley. Hyderabad accounts for 17 percent of units and 21 percent of talent, with other cities like Pune, Chennai, and Delhi NCR also playing a role in diversifying the industry.

India has become a prominent player in semiconductor design on a global scale, showing substantial advancement in the last twenty years. Prominent global corporations have been setting up innovation centers for research and development in India, attracted by the nation's exceptional pool of design talent. Around 20 percent of the world's semiconductor design engineers are based in India, which has a reputation for having a substantial number of design patents and intellectual property rights (IPR) registrations.

Careernet reports that semiconductor design Global Capability Centres (GCCs) make up about 4 percent of India's total GCC landscape and are expanding at a notable average rate of 7 percent per year. By mid-2024, over 180 semiconductor design GCCs had around 110,000 professionals working for them. Government actions like the India Semiconductor Mission have spurred this growth by drawing in large investments and top professionals.
